SPAM is a canned meat product made from pork, originally from the United States.
It has a slightly salty flavor and pairs well with both rice and bread! Since it can be stored at room temperature for a long time, it’s perfect for emergency food or disaster preparedness kits.
While it’s famous in Okinawa for Spam Musubi, it can actually be used in a variety of dishes. Keeping a can on hand is super convenient—you never know when you’ll need it!

Ingredients
Cooked white rice (preferably cold) | 2 bowls |
SPAM | 1/2 can (150g) |
Kimchi | 150g |
Green onion | 1/2 |
Garlic | 2 |
Gochujang (Korean chili paste) | 1 tbsp |
Egg(optional) | 1 |
Sesame oil | 1 tbsp + 1 tbsp |
How to Make
1⃣ Prep
Mince the garlic and green onion.
Cut the SPAM into small cubes.

2⃣ Sauté the Aromatics
Add 1 tablespoon of sesame oil to a frying pan.
Sauté garlic and green onion over medium heat for about 2 minutes.
Once fragrant, transfer them to a plate and set aside.
3⃣ Cook the SPAM
Add another tablespoon of sesame oil to the same pan.
Cook the cubed SPAM over medium heat for 2–3 minutes until crispy and golden.

4⃣ Add Rice & Mix Everything
Add the cold rice to the pan and break it up with a spatula.
Add the kimchi, gochujang, and the sautéed garlic and green onion.
Stir-fry everything together over medium to high heat.

A soft, runny fried egg goes perfectly with the spicy SPAM and kimchi. Highly recommended!
