This time I used MUJI’s Pad Thai Handmade Kit and added pork and onion.
When I actually made it, it wasn’t too spicy, and the sweet–savory flavor went perfectly with the shrimp and pork. It really reminded me of the Pad Thai I ate in Thailand.

When I opened the kit, I thought it was great because it included ingredients like tamarind paste, fish sauce, and coconut sugar—things that are usually hard to use up or hard to find in Japan. With just this MUJI kit, you can easily make authentic Pad Thai at home.
Ingredients
MUJI Pad Thai Kit | 1 pack (for 2 servings) |
Pork slices | 100-300g |
Frozen shrimp | 8 |
Eggs | 2個 |
Onion | 1/2 |
Garlic chives (nira) | 1/3 |
Bean sprouts | 100g |
Sesame oil | 大さじ1+大さじ1 |
Soy sauce | 大さじ1 |

How to Make
1⃣ Prep the ingredients
Thaw the shrimp and pat dry.
Slice the onion thinly, cut the nira into 4 cm pieces.
Cut the pork into bite-sized pieces if needed.

2⃣ Cook the noodles
Boil the rice noodles from the kit in plenty of water for about 4 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Drain in a colander.
(Make sure to stir, otherwise the noodles will stick together.)
3⃣ Make scrambled eggs
Heat 1 tbsp sesame oil in a frying pan, add the beaten eggs, and scramble.
Remove and set aside.

4⃣ Stir-fry the ingredients
In the same pan, add another 1 tbsp of sesame oil.
Stir-fry the pork and onion.
Once cooked, add the shrimp, then the noodles, bean sprouts, and nira.

5⃣ Add eggs and Pad Thai sauce
Return the scrambled eggs to the pan.
Add the Pad Thai sauce from the kit and stir until everything is well coated.

6⃣ Finish
Add the extra sauce packet and 1 tbsp soy sauce, mix well.
Serve with lemon wedges or fresh tomatoes if you like.

A friend of mine was saying their dinners always end up being the same, so I recommended trying Thai food—and they said it turned out delicious!
If you want to switch things up at dinner once in a while, or if you’re a fan of Thai food, this recipe is for you.
Even my husband, who isn’t a huge Thai food lover, said it was really tasty.
