Busy with a new life or work?
Just managing to eat a meal when you’re tired is an achievement in itself! So, give yourself some credit!
Whenever I use butter, I always think,
“Deliciousness is justice. If it makes my heart happy, then it’s absolutely the right choice!”
This butter soy sauce grilled rice ball is exactly that—delicious and heartwarming!
Why not make it with simple ingredients from your fridge and some leftover rice?
Ingredients
Cooked rice (leftover rice, reheated, works too!) | 330g (11.6oz) |
Soy sauce(Kikkoman) | 1 tbsp |
Butter | 1 tsp |
Sesame oil | 1 tsp |
(Feel free to use any brand of ingredients you have on hand!)
How to Make
1⃣ Cook the rice or reheat your leftover rice, then mix in the soy sauce and butter.

2⃣ Shape the rice into onigiri (rice ball) while keeping your hands cool with cold water.

3⃣ Lightly coat a frying pan with sesame oil, then wipe off the excess with a paper towel. Grill all sides of the rice ball over medium heat until golden brown.

When I first started working, I was obsessed with managing my health properly.
I made sure to take vitamins every day, but one day, I caught a cold.
I thought, “I’ve been eating so healthily, so why…?” and felt frustrated.
Looking back, I realized that I had been overworking myself.
Even though I was eating well, I didn’t know how to take care of my mental health, and that stress took a toll on my body.
So instead of fixating on “I have to be healthy!”, I now try to take it easy.
No need to push too hard—sometimes, simply enjoying a butter soy sauce grilled rice ball and relaxing is the best form of self-care.
